Elks Lodge Remodel

The historic Spanish revival style structure is located on a prominent urban corner of downtown. The owner, a well known local historic property developer, was the right fit for the redevelopment. A single tenant law firm was programmed for nearly the entire structure which combined a delicate balance of historic preservation on the exterior while the interior was slated for a modern transformation to meet the functional needs of the law group.

Careful planning preserved the facade and openings in keeping with local historic district as well as federal preservation guidelines to qualify for tax credits. Interior offices are reconfigured to line the perimeter of the floor plate and share natural light to the adjacent interior assistant cubicles via obscure glass. Windowless deep core spaces are reserved for vertical circulation and services. The interior re-invokes a sense of the original formal layout while modern features are juxtaposed to create a delicate coexistence. Colors and materials are rich and modern to complete the look. The street level is shared with several other small retail rental spaces.
